Hey Chyc Entrepreneurs!!
If you've been following me for a while then you know I'm always in search for a new learning experience! Well that's just what I got this past weekend at The Next Gen Summit that was held at Convene Conference Center in NYC. Before I get into the goods, everyone always asks, "Brandy, how do get to attend these amazing events?" well to be completely honest; I google and stay connected other entrepreneurs! (search: Top 10 conferences for digital entrepreneurs)
So any who! With my CSDM "Work Like a Boss" Journal, iPhone, a pen, sparkling water, and two fellow Chyc Entrepreneurs Natasha Hall and Tiara L. Johnson, I was ready for some life/career/business changing information (because one area just wouldn't be enough!). The speaker lineup was absolutely inspiring and informative! The summit featured top CEOs, VPs, and serial entrepreneurs that have reached success by taking many different paths. So let me highlight a few of my favorites, in hopes that you google their stories and find some shared inspiration.
By far my favorite speaker was Peter Shankman, Founder of HARO. Just click his name to see who he is and all of his professional accomplishments. So why was he my favorite? For me, he was the most relatable in where I am in entrepreneurial journey. He was in attendance, teaching all of these bright eyed and hungry young people whom we're all hanging at his every word just hoping for some bit of information to help them make their dreams come true, while his 5 year old daughter sat in the front row with her tablet who we later learned was waiting to be taken to a birthday party by her dad, Mr. Shankman himself. Being that I was probably the only 7 month pregnant woman in the room, he reached me!
I was thinking to myself...mmm here is a man that is doing all the things that I want to do and he is being a commited parent all at the same time! I know like me, many of my readers are moms and it's probably one of the most asked questions I get asked, "How to balance it all?" It was super refreshing to see someone of his caliber touch on family, self-care, and values that went beyond success and money.
But wait...he made some damn good points when it comes to start ups, business, and conquering yourself.
By far one the best quotes from him! He talked a lot about serving your audience, just being good at what you do, and delivering on your word! I was there for ALL of it. His perspective on business and customer satisfaction was witty, yet a true deep dive into how simple it is to please people in this oversaturated technological maze we are operating in. I will definitely be cyber stalking Mr. Shankman in the future in hopes to pick up more nuggets along the way.
Some other note worthy speakers that left a last impression on me: Patrick LeeCo-Founder, Rotten Tomatoes, Sylvia Acevedo, CEO, Girl Scouts of the USA, Swan SitVice President, Nike, Malena Higuera, General Manager, L'Oréal, Eric KoesterFounder, Creator Institute.
